In the face of the tragedy unfolding in Nepal following the massive earthquake that hit the country last weekend, Euroleague Basketball and its member clubs wish to join the international relief efforts that are underway to aid the victims and to encourage fans of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and the Eurocup to help, too
Euroleague Basketball and its clubs, through a donation of €70,000 made to OXFAM Intermón, will be helping to provide 270 families in Nepal with temporary housing and to deliver 2,000 personal hygiene kits, among other relief supplies.
In addition, Euroleague Basketball announced that before the second game of the Eurocup Finals between Khimki Moscow Region and Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas, to be played on Wednesday in Russia, a minute of silence will be observed prior to tipoff to honor the victims of the earthquake and to call attention to their ongoing plight.
“The solidarity that already exists among European basketball fans is a perfect vehicle to channel our shock and sadness about this tragic earthquake into help for the victims,” Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague Basketball President and CEO, said.
Through One Team, its corporate social responsibility, Euroleague Basketball clubs work year-round to help disadvantaged communities across Europe and beyond. In that same spirit, they come together now to become One Team in support of Nepal.
