What Does History Say About 0-1 in the ACB Playoff Finals?

History shows that the team starting with a 0-1 in the Playoff Finals has excellent chances of becoming champion: Ten of twelve (83.3%) of those who achieved the result Barcelona just got ended up lifting the title!

Through 2026, a total of 37 Playoff Finals series have been played in the best-of-five format. Twelve of those series began with a victory for the team that started without home-court advantage (0-1).

Of those 12 occasions, in 83.3% (10 of 12!) of the cases the team that put the series at 0-1 ended up becoming champion.

However, in 75% (9 of 12) of the occasions the series was tied (1-1) in the second game. Only in the remaining 25% (3 of 12) did the team without home-court advantage also win the second matchup: it happened in 2002, 2008, and 2010, always with Baskonia as the protagonist.

As for the final series result, three of the precedents ended 0-3 (25%), in four occasions the series finished 1-3 (33.3%), and in three other occasions (25%) the battle went to a fifth game with a 2-3 victory for the team that started without home-court advantage.

On the other hand, there are only two comebacks by the home team after an initial 0-1. The first time was in the legendary 1995 final, when Barcelona came back against Unicaja (3-2) in a series that the Málaga team had started by winning.

In more modern times, Baskonia put the series at 0-1 against Real Madrid before the white comeback, with three consecutive victories (3-1) to claim the title.

The last precedent of a 0-1 in the final dates back 4 years ago, when Real Madrid won the Playoff Finals 1-3 after starting the series with a victory.

Will Barcelona make the precedents work in their favor or will there be an orange comeback?
