BADALONA. Asisa Joventut decisively closed out the postponed Matchday 29 game of the Liga Endesa, defeating Unicaja 95-74 at the Olímpic. The green-and-black squad resumed the match that had been suspended weeks earlier due to scoreboard issues, maintaining the same dominance shown before the postponement and securing a convincing victory to extend their impressive competitive run.
Dani Miret's team recorded their fifth consecutive Liga Endesa victory and continues to establish itself as one of the most solid squads in the final stretch of the season.
The game had been halted in early May at halftime with a score of 53-33 in favor of the Catalans, and the resumption confirmed the same impressions left by that first half.
From the start of the original game, Asisa Joventut came out with tremendous energy and quickly opened up a lead thanks to the offensive leadership of Jabari Parker, who was very aggressive from the opening possessions.
Unicaja tried to respond through the interior play of James Webb III, which allowed them to temporarily cut into the deficit during the first quarter, although the green-and-black squad quickly regained control of the game's pace.
Penya grew progressively on both ends of the floor and closed the first quarter with an advantage (25-18).
The emergence of Ricky Rubio in the second quarter finished accelerating the home team. Asisa Joventut found much more offensive dynamism and continuously punished a Unicaja that was too soft on both defense and offense.
Ibon Navarro tried to halt the green-and-black growth with a timeout, but the home dominance continued to increase thanks to an inspired Jabari Parker.
Asisa Joventut not only began to think about victory, but also about recovering the head-to-head point differential and managed to surpass the twenty-point mark just before halftime (53-33).
It was then that the game was suspended due to technical issues with the Olímpic's scoreboard and had to be completed on May 26.
Upon resumption, the Catalan squad maintained exactly the same competitive intensity. A dunk by Yannick Kraag extended the home advantage even further and confirmed that Joventut was not willing to allow any visiting comeback.
Unicaja never managed to cut the deficit below twenty points and also saw how Asisa Joventut continued to punish from beyond the arc and played with tremendous confidence.
A three-pointer by Adam Hanga pushed the lead to 69-44 and shortly after Penya even surpassed a thirty-point margin.
The Málaga team tried to improve the result in the final quarter thanks to a small run led by Chase Audige, although the game was already completely decided.
The exchange of baskets in the final minutes clearly benefited an Asisa Joventut that managed the closing stretch with ease until sealing the game at the final 95-74.
Jabari Parker was once again one of the great protagonists for the green-and-black squad and finished as the game's most valuable player with 24 points. Ricky Rubio also made a difference in directing the team in another very solid performance by Penya.
With this victory, Asisa Joventut extends their strong moment in the Liga Endesa and further reinforces their playoff aspirations. For their part, Unicaja continues to go through a very difficult stretch of the season following another convincing defeat.
