ACB: San Pablo Burgos Deepens Unicaja Crisis, Knocks Them Out of Playoff Spots (97-90)

BURGOS. San Pablo Burgos defeated Unicaja 97-90 at the Coliseum, dropping the Málaga side out of Liga Endesa playoff positions for the first time this season. Surne Bilbao Basket's victory over Real Madrid leaves Ibon Navarro's team in ninth place with just three matchdays remaining in the regular season.

Unicaja showed a fragile performance from the start and paid dearly for a disastrous opening. The Burgos side came out with far greater intensity and quickly punished visiting mistakes, opening up a commanding 11-0 run that forced Ibon Navarro to call a timeout.

Raulzinho Neto led San Pablo Burgos' excellent offensive start, while Unicaja was erratic in shooting and lacked fluidity in ball movement. The entry of Audige and Tyson Carter gave the Málaga attack more verticality and allowed them to partially cut into the deficit before the end of the first quarter, which ended 27-22.

The second period maintained the same dynamic. Audige continued to be Unicaja's main offensive reference, and a steal of his resulted in a dunk by Webb III that brought the visitors closer to 36-34.

Ibon Navarro's team even managed to tie the score thanks to Webb III's three-point shooting, but never managed to control the pace of the game. San Pablo Burgos responded each time Unicaja threatened to complete the comeback and punished several unforced errors by the Málaga side in the final stretch of the second quarter to head into halftime with a significant advantage (55-46).

Defensive problems were evident again for Unicaja, unable to contain the offensive pace of the Burgos side throughout the night.

After the break, the visiting reaction appeared, led by Kendrick Perry. The point guard took on responsibilities and commanded Unicaja's best stretch in the game, allowing the Málaga side to tie it up at 63-63.

But just when the Unicaja team seemed capable of turning the game around, Gonzalo Corbalán emerged. The Argentine sustained San Pablo Burgos with points, assists, and high-energy plays that returned control to the home side.

Basket by basket, the Burgos team opened up the lead again and closed the third quarter with a 79-71 advantage, forcing Unicaja to row upstream once more.

The final period followed the same script. Unicaja constantly tried to get closer, but each reaction found an immediate response in the attack or defense of San Pablo Burgos. Ibon Navarro's team never managed to complete the comeback and ended up losing 97-90.

The defeat leaves Unicaja in a very delicate situation in Liga Endesa. The Málaga side has accumulated six losses in their last seven games and falls out of the top eight positions with only three matchdays remaining in the regular season.

For their part, San Pablo Burgos secured a victory of enormous value against one of the competition's top teams and continues to strengthen their aspirations of staying in this decisive stretch of the season.
