ZARAGOZA. UCAM Murcia took an important step toward securing second place in the Liga Endesa after defeating Casademont Zaragoza 90-100 at Príncipe Felipe, in a game where Sito Alonso's team punished from beyond the arc and responded to every local comeback attempt.
Kelan Martin was the standout offensive force for the Murcia side with 23 points and tremendous efficiency from three-point range, leading a UCAM team that once again proved solid in the game's crucial moments.
Casademont Zaragoza started the game strong, powered by the energy of Santi Yusta and Joaquín Rodríguez, finding points in transition and capitalizing on a somewhat disorganized start from the visitors. The Aragonese team took early leads, but the momentum quickly shifted with the outside shooting accuracy of the university team.
Martin and Cakoc began finding open looks and UCAM Murcia closed the first quarter already ahead on the scoreboard. The Murcia team maintained offensive confidence in the second period, with Martin continuously punishing from the perimeter to extend the lead beyond two possessions.
Just when the game seemed to be getting away, Casademont Zaragoza reacted. Wright-Foreman elevated the offensive level of the home team and Gonzalo García de Vitoria's squad managed to get back into the game before halftime, cutting the deficit to 43-45.
The contest remained tight for much of the third quarter. Zaragoza stayed in the game thanks to its intensity and the play of Devin Robinson, even getting to within a single point. However, UCAM Murcia responded at the crucial moment with a run that reopened the gap and allowed the visitors to enter the final period with greater control.
A three-pointer by Howard Sant-Roos right at the start of the fourth quarter halted the local momentum and further reinforced Murcia's confidence. Zaragoza kept fighting, but never managed to get close enough to challenge a very solid UCAM Murcia in the decisive stretch.
The victory allows Sito Alonso's team to continue defending second place in the Liga Endesa ahead of the final matchday, while Casademont Zaragoza remains heavily compromised in the fight to avoid relegation.
