BILBAO — Surne Bilbao defeated Unicaja 90-74 in Liga Endesa action, a game marked by the defensive solidity of Jaume Ponsarnau's squad and the offensive leadership of Darrun Hilliard. The victory allows Surne Bilbao to secure their fifteenth league win and pull level with playoff positions after a crucial week for the Bilbao club.
The opening was marked by defensive dominance from both teams. The first minutes were played at a controlled pace, with defenses imposing themselves on the offenses. Unicaja found some offensive fluidity first and managed to open a small early lead (4-10), taking advantage of their intensity on both ends of the court.

Surne Bilbao found breathing room with a key play from Aleix Font. From there, the Basque team built their advantage from the free-throw line: two from Frey, four from Jaworski, and two more from Bagayoko extended the gap to 68-58. Free-throw accuracy was one of the determining factors in the game.
A layup from Melwin Pantzar pushed the lead to 72-60 and unleashed enthusiasm at Bilbao Arena. Surne Bilbao's good moment continued with a post basket from Petrasek that left the score at 76-63 at the start of the fourth quarter.
The final stretch of the Surne Bilbao-Unicaja game had a controversial episode when Pantzar provoked the ejection of James Webb III, until that moment the most productive player for the visitors, after an incident that ended with the power forward sent off. Although Unicaja tried to briefly respond, defensive problems continued to punish the Málaga squad.
Surne Bilbao took advantage of the situation to close out the game. Two consecutive three-pointers from Margiris Normantas extended the lead to 84-68 and left the game practically decided.
Darrun Hilliard, Surne Bilbao's leading scorer with 18 points, sealed the victory with another three-pointer that put the score at 89-70 with less than three minutes remaining. Melwin Pantzar delivered a complete performance against his future team with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a rating of 22, while the interior work of Tryggvi Hlinason and the accuracy of Petrasek also proved key.
Surne Bilbao thus adds their fifteenth victory in Liga Endesa, which allows them to remain fully in contention for playoff positions in the ACB standings.
