The young Uruguayan player with Italian passport, considered a development prospect, joined Barcelona's academy at 16 and returns after gaining experience across five Liga Endesa teams

Agustín Ubal will wear the Barcelona shirt again. FC Barcelona and the Uruguayan player have reached a contract agreement through June 30, 2029. Ubal, who stands 1.98 meters tall and will turn 23 on July 19, holds an Italian passport and is considered a development prospect. He joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 at age 16, made his debut with the first team at 18, and now returns after accumulating over 120 games in Liga Endesa, spread across five teams.

"It's a pleasure to come back. Since I left, I've always dreamed of this moment. I've worked hard and I'm very happy and excited, eager to start and face this challenge as it deserves," Ubal told the club's media.

He is a very versatile perimeter player with the ability to play point guard, shooting guard, and small forward, always bringing plenty of energy both in his drives to the basket and on defensive duties. He describes himself this way: "I'm versatile and can move across the three perimeter positions. When I play, I do it with my heart, with my life. I'll bring character and energy. I want Barcelona to succeed as always."

Arrival at Barcelona and five ACB teams
The young Uruguayan talent joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 at age 16 with enormous room for growth. At the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, he continued his development with the junior team and competed in Liga EBA with Barcelona Atlètic.

After the pandemic, in the summer of 2021, he completed preseason with the first team in Encamp, and his effort was rewarded with his official debut in the fifth matchday of Liga Endesa, on the court of Coosur Real Betis. Sarunas Jasikevicius counted on him in three other Liga games and one EuroLeague game, played at ASVEL's arena.

Ubal especially remembers the brave decision to leave his country: "I left my family in Uruguay to come to a club that has given me everything, both academically and athletically. I was able to spend one season with the first team and that drove me to know where I wanted to be. Away, I've continued growing as an athlete and now I return better prepared to face this challenge."

In March of the 2021/22 season, the young player was loaned to Río Breogán with the goal of gaining more minutes and experience at the elite level. His progression continued with respective loans to Bilbao Basket (2022/23) and Zunder Palencia (2023/24). Once unattached from the club, he played for Coviran Granada (2024/25) and this past season with BAXI Manresa.

He returns, therefore, after accumulating experience at five different clubs, with a total of 129 games in Liga Endesa. This season, with the Bages team, he has delivered strong performances, averaging 9.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. In the EuroCup he played 17 games, averaging 11.5 points and 3.7 rebounds. He also has European experience with Bilbao Basket, where he played eight FIBA Europe Champions League games, averaging 4.6 points and 1.3 rebounds.

In this regard, he assures that this return is the fruit of hard work: "The key has been not giving up and the desire to return to the club and defend this shirt and these colors. I've always told my family that I wanted to come back. Physically I've taken a step forward and I've gained experience."

International experience
Ubal also has international experience with Uruguay's senior national team, where he debuted at just 17 years old, scoring 20 points in a victory against Paraguay.
