Mumbrú arrives in Bologna to lead a project of the highest demands, with presence in the EuroLeague and the obligation to compete at the highest level both in Italy and on the continental stage. His arrival opens a new era for Virtus, which is betting on a coach with knowledge of European basketball, experience in the Liga Endesa, and international track record.
As a player, Mumbrú developed a long career at clubs such as Joventut, Real Madrid, and Bilbao Basket, in addition to being part of one of the most successful generations of the Spanish national team. As a coach, he began his career at Bilbao and later coached Valencia Basket before taking on the role of head coach of the German national team.
Mumbrú himself expressed gratitude for the opportunity and highlighted the historic dimension of the Bologna club, which he described as one of the great names in European basketball. The Spanish coach now faces a long and demanding season, with the challenge of building a competitive Virtus from day one.
Virtus also thanked the German Federation for its cooperation in allowing Mumbrú to combine his new position in Bologna with his responsibility as head coach of the German national team.
