Aljaz Kunc Joins Bàsquet Girona

Aljaz Kunc (Ljubljana, 30/07/1999) is the new player for Bàsquet Girona until the end of the season.

The power forward, standing 2.07 meters tall, arrives from Polish side Twarde Pierniki Toruń. Kunc played in Slovenia between 2014 and 2017 before moving in 2018 to Elevation Preparatory Academy in Sarasota, Florida, to complete his final year of high school. He subsequently developed his career in the United States at two universities. First, he played for Washington State Cougars between the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons, and later played with Iowa State Cyclones during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. Later, he began his professional career in the Polish league with Twarde Pierniki Toruń.

In his last season with the Polish club, Kunc averaged 17.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 28 games played. He also recorded a 35.7% three-point shooting percentage and an average rating of 19.4 per game.

The player has also represented Slovenia's national team in qualifying matches for EuroBasket 2025 and in the qualifying phase for the 2027 World Cup.

Statement from Fernando San Emeterio, sports director: "We believe he is a player in clear progression. This year we consider he had a great season in Poland. His statistics demonstrate that, but beyond the numbers, following him you can clearly appreciate his evolution. He is a player with great ability to space the floor and represents a threat in offensive transitions. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor to attack from outside to inside. He is intelligent in reading the game and moves very well without the ball. He is excellent for joining the ACB League. He is a player with a wide margin for growth and we believe this is a very good opportunity for both parties: for the player to make the jump to the ACB and for us to incorporate a profile with potential to perform at a very high level from day one."
