Andre Drummond Joins Knicks to Strengthen the Paint

The New York Knicks have found a replacement for the backup center position. According to Shams Charania, the New York franchise has completed the signing of Andre Drummond, who signs a one-year deal worth $3.9 million.

The move comes after the departure of Mitchell Robinson, as well as the exit of Ariel Hukporti, and allows the current champions to fill an important position within their interior rotation. Drummond doesn't offer exactly the same profile as Robinson, especially on the defensive end, but he does provide something the Knicks needed: rebounding, physical presence, and the ability to generate second-chance opportunities.

The veteran center comes off a solid season with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he assumed a useful role off the bench. He averaged 6.4 points and 8.4 rebounds in 19 minutes per game, stepping up whenever he had to take on more minutes due to Joel Embiid's absences.

At 32 years old, Drummond appears to have found a role much better suited to this stage of his career. Far from being the player expected to put up big numbers as a starter, he has now become a specialist capable of making an impact in limited minutes, dominating the glass, and providing experience in the second unit.

The Knicks add a proven interior player, affordable and experienced to complete their rotation. It won't be a signing with major media impact, but rather a coherent addition for a team that needed muscle, size, and reliability under the basket.
