La Laguna Tenerife has secured the services of combo guard Arturs Kurucs for the upcoming season. The new addition to the Canary Islands roster, a Latvian international and locally developed player (JFL), can play both point guard and shooting guard and arrives from Río Breogán.
Kurucs (Cesis, 26 years old, 1.93m) has experience in Liga Endesa, where he has accumulated a total of 168 games, including his time with the Galician club, UCAM Murcia, and Baskonia; as well as in the EuroLeague (70 games) and the Basketball Champions League (30 matches).
Arturs began playing for VEF Riga before joining Baskonia's academy, the club that signed him to an eight-year deal in the summer of 2015. It was there that he turned professional, with some loan spells back to his former team: he won the Baltic league championship in the 2019/20 season, being named to the All-Star Five of the season.
From the 2020/21 season onward, he was a regular part of Baskonia's first team until the end of 2022/23. After that, he played for Greek side Promitheas Patras and UCAM Murcia in the 2023/24 campaign before signing with Río Breogán two seasons ago, where last season he averaged 6.9 points and 2 rebounds per game.
Along the way, Arturs Kurucs has been an international for Latvia in all age categories, from U16 (he was runner-up at the U18 European Championship) to the senior level. At the senior level, he participated in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, when his country finished in an impressive fifth place, as well as at EuroBasket 2025.
