The Madrid club reaches a new agreement with the historic Belgrade team, creating a joint project spanning institutional, sporting, social, business, and branding areas
The bond between the Fuenlabrada team and Belgrade club dates back to the 1991-92 season, when the Serbian club, forced by the Balkan wars, played its home games at the Fernando Martín Pavilion in Fuenlabrada, adopting the Spanish city as its home while Fuenlabrada welcomed them with open arms. The story doesn't end there—that same season, the Serbian team, coached by the legendary Željko Obradović, won its first and only FIBA European League (EuroLeague) title after defeating Joventut Badalona in the final.
The connection between Partizan Belgrade fans and players, including historic figures such as Sasha Djordjevic and Predrag Danilovic, became so strong that during that season the team was known by the nickname: "Partizan Fuenlabrada". Now, more than 30 years later, both clubs are consolidating a new project to unite their paths.
The new Partizan Fuenlabrada is a joint project between both clubs that represents a major shared boost and encompasses institutional, sporting, social, business, and branding areas. The agreement was confirmed by Borja Rúperez, CEO of Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, in an interview with Revista Chapman.
Regarding the benefits this new project will bring to both clubs, Borja Rúperez stated the following in his interview with Revista Chapman: "Player transfers, exchange of youth development players, coaches, possibility of joint signings, merchandising, facility operations—both theirs and ours—sponsorships... Everything that can be part of the operations of a professional basketball club carried out jointly.
What do we receive? We receive the support and penetration of the entity in the public, let's say, with greater impact in European basketball. I'm not talking about sports-wise, I'm talking about audience reach.
And what do they expect? Well, Spain and everything it means to be a Spanish club beyond our borders, which is the entire range of Spanish-speaking countries we can access through Baloncesto Fuenlabrada and also through our business structures".
This new agreement marks a new chapter for the Fuenlabrada project, which will debut as Partizan Fuenlabrada this weekend against Partizan Belgrade in the Admiralbet Open Air Tournament in Belgrade.
