Baskonia Pursues Center: Sorkin Offer Rejected

Baskonia continues searching for solutions in the market and has encountered its first setback. According to Javier Lekuona reporting in AS, the Vitoria-based club presented a formal offer for Roman Sorkin, center for Maccabi Tel Aviv, and the Israeli response was no. Israeli media, through Sport 5, goes further: Maccabi rejected the proposal immediately and has no intention of parting with a player they consider a key piece.

The rejection makes sense. Just a month ago, Maccabi secured Sorkin with a four-year contract extension through 2030, worth approximately $1.7 million per season. It doesn't mean the door is closed forever, but the club won't negotiate under current conditions.

The Center Baskonia is Seeking

The interest makes sense. The Vitoria club considers signing a center a priority, and Sorkin, 30 years old and 2.08 meters tall, is an interior player with good shooting touch and the ability to space the floor—something that fits what Velimir Perasović is looking for. He just completed his best EuroLeague season, averaging 13.5 points and 4.2 rebounds, shooting 51.6% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range. He is Maccabi's second all-time leading scorer in EuroLeague history, behind only Scottie Wilbekin.

Baskonia Seeking a Turnaround

The move is part of a broader plan to escape their crisis. Baskonia sits last in the EuroLeague (1-8), has lost seven consecutive games, and their fans have already shown their discontent with whistles and white handkerchiefs. The other avenue is Jabari Parker, a free agent after leaving Partizan and with a passport that would not take up a non-EU roster spot in the Liga Endesa.
