Bad news for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Anthony Edwards will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will be sidelined for several weeks, according to Tim Reynolds at AP citing a source familiar with the situation. The team has not yet made an official announcement.
The knee had already appeared in the Timberwolves' medical reports, though without details about the issue. The team had listed him as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Golden State Warriors before deciding to proceed with surgery. According to reports, the absence could last up to two months.
In His Best Start
The news comes at the worst possible time for Edwards, who had started the season on fire. He was averaging 33.3 points in the first four games, with 45 in his debut against the Heat and 47 on Monday in the overtime loss to the Cavaliers, and had led the Timberwolves to three victories.

Goodbye to Awards
If the absence stretches to two months, Edwards would return around the Timberwolves' Christmas game against the Thunder and would miss approximately 25 games. That would leave him below the 65 games required by the NBA to be eligible for end-of-season awards, such as MVP or All-NBA teams.
It's not the first time his knee has sidelined him. Last season he played only 61 games, mostly due to issues with that joint, though he averaged 28.8 points, 5 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
