Breogán Faces Dziki Varsovia for BCL Qualifying Final Spot

Of the eight teams that started the qualifying tournament in Samokov, only two have exceeded one hundred points in both their games. They meet today. Río Breogán and Dziki Varsovia play at 17:00, with broadcast on TVG2, for a spot in the final that grants access to the Basketball Champions League group stage.

How Each Team Arrives

Breogán has won both of their matches convincingly: 126-80 over Rilski Sportist in the Round of 16 and 105-84 over Manchester in the quarterfinals. The numbers are striking: 38 three-pointers made on 76 attempts, a 50 percent success rate, and an average of 115.5 points per game.

They also display a high defensive level, with pressure on passing lanes across the court that is generating steals and easy baskets, plus strong performances from Danko Brankovic and Aleksa Ilic in the paint, along with rebounding dominance.

Dziki, meanwhile, eliminated Czech BK Opava (116-99) and Latvian VEF Riga (102-95).

The Opponent, According to Casimiro

Luis Casimiro was explicit in his preview: he expects a "highly competitive" match against a team that is "quite solid, playing with a lot of pace because they don't speculate at all".

He also detailed how they play: "They try to run a lot and score in the first seconds of the possession. They also look for many points from three-point range because they have decisive players on the perimeter".

The numbers back this up. Dziki—"wild boars" in Polish, hence the shield with the animal's head—has launched 73 three-pointers in two games and made 24, twelve per game, with nearly a 33 percent success rate.

Their outside threats are three Americans: point guard Austin Luke, combo guard Joseph Girard III, who scored 25 points in the last game, and power forward Zane Waterman. In the team coached by Italian Marco Legovich, also standing out are director Makai Ashton-Langford, center Osun Osunniyi, and Polish small forward Grzegorz Kaminski, a regular starter and another perimeter threat.

Casimiro also emphasized their ability to come back: against Riga they were down nine in the fourth quarter and rallied with a 26-40 run.

Injuries and Context

Josep Peris, who already missed the Manchester game, is doubtful. And Edgar Vicedo is dealing with discomfort, though he will make the effort to play.

On the positive side, the club has finally officially announced the arrival of Andersson García, after weeks of bureaucratic procedures that had prevented him from joining.

The coach wanted to set the frame: "We must not forget that we are still in preseason", though he clarified that the team wants to keep building.
