The British center has joined Casademont Zaragoza under coach Joan Plaza with four games remaining in the Spanish league season.
The 34-year-old center, standing 2.08 meters tall, arrives at the red-and-white squad from Mersin Basketbol Süper Ligi (Turkish league), where he has played the last two seasons. This campaign, Olaseni has appeared in 29 games in the Turkish domestic competition, posting averages of 11.1 points and 7.9 rebounds in 25 minutes per game, which earned him a 16.1 overall efficiency rating.
Despite Olaseni's contributions, his team, Mersin MSK, was relegated this season. The Turkish club was also coached by Spanish head coach Carles Durán, who is facing his second consecutive relegation in Turkey's domestic competition after being relegated last season with Darussafaka.
He developed at the University of Iowa and became one of the most beloved players among Hawkeyes fans. He arrived in Europe with Brose Bamberg in the 2015-2016 season, competing in the EuroLeague that same year. He also has experience in the EuroCup, a competition in which he was named to the All-EuroCup First Team 2023-2024 and received the MVP award in some of the games he played with London Lions.
Gabriel Olaseni is a center with an extensive career across different European domestic leagues. He has experience in the Italian, German, French, and Ukrainian leagues, but he has spent the most seasons in the Turkish league, with more than six campaigns under his belt. Throughout this extensive career, he has also had a stint in Spain's top basketball competition. He did so in the 2017-18 season, when he played in 34 games for Montakit Fuenlabrada. That season the center contributed 5.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in an average of 15 minutes per game.
Now, eight seasons later, Gabriel Olaseni returns to the Liga Endesa to help Casademont Zaragoza avoid relegation. The British player will strengthen the paint for the Aragonese squad. His first game with the team will be in Manresa this Saturday, May 16, at 21:00.
