Casimiro's Breogán 3.0 Starts Strong: Dominant Display Over Sporting in Ribadeo

Por ·

Nearly three months after that dramatic survival against Casademont Zaragoza at the Pazo, Sirius sounded again. The blue tide gathered this time in Ribadeo for its classic summer visit to A Mariña, and Luis Casimiro's new Breogán responded to the Fogar de Breogán with a statement of intent: 110-76 over Sporting de Portugal in its first preseason game, unaffected by FIBA window absences and with a packed house at the Municipal to close out the first week of work.

Half an hour of dominance

The debut of Breo 3.0 showed an image of synchronization unusual for August. In the starting lineup, only Mihailo Andric maintained the essence of last season, accompanied by Rasir Bolton, Josep Peris, Tevin Brown and temporary player Tamba, and yet the team played from memory: a steal by Brown and an easy basket by Tamba to open, high pace and accurate shooting to break away. Three-pointers by Brown and Bolton pushed it to 14-4 at the midpoint of the first quarter, which closed 24-16 after a buzzer-beater three-pointer by Kalscheur.

The second quarter was the best stretch for the Lucense side. Two consecutive three-pointers by Peris opened a spectacular phase of ball movement and transition that extended the lead to eighteen points. Sporting clung to the game with O'Reilly's first twelve points, a huge block by Baskin and an alley-oop by Carter (41-31), but Francis Alonso and Aranitovic, reliable from beyond the arc, left an eloquent 59-41 at halftime.

Ovation for Viño and grand finale

The second half maintained the script: transition dominance, noticeable improvement on the boards and brilliant minutes from Erik Quintela and Francis Alonso. The emotional moment came when the Municipal gave a thunderous ovation to local academy product Néstor Viño, another temporary player during the absence of the internationals. Viño himself closed out the show with a three-point play on the fast break that rounded out the 110 points, following a fourth quarter of 34-12.

The victory was a textbook team effort: Tamba finished with 17 points, Francis Alonso with 16, Peris with 14, Brown and Aranitovic with 12, and Bolton and Edgar Vicedo with 11. On the other side, one of the favorites for the Portuguese league title was left with O'Reilly's 18, Carter's 17 and Baskin's 16.
