Curry Injured: Warriors Enter Season With Full Injury Report

Por ·

Chase Center fell silent on Sunday. Stephen Curry twisted his right ankle during Golden State Warriors' open practice after a misstep and limped to the locker room amid fan concern. With three days until the season opener, any setback for the Warriors' star, who turns 38, raises alarm bells.

Steve Kerr emerged afterward to calm nerves. "He says he's fine," the head coach explained. "I went to talk to him after he came down and went into the treatment room. He's fine." Still, the scare highlighted how fragile Curry's body is at this stage of his career.

A Worrying Precedent

The concerns have merit. Last season, a right knee injury limited Curry to 43 games, and the Warriors lost 26 of the 39 games they played without him. The four-time NBA champion point guard is entering his 18th season in the league after a preseason in which he averaged 13 points, 3.2 assists and 2 rebounds in five games. In the last one, against the Blazers, he posted 20 points and 5 assists.

The Warriors' problems extend beyond Curry. Jimmy Butler III continues recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear, Moses Moody remains sidelined with a tendon issue, and Latvian Kristaps Porzingis is out with an undisclosed illness. Additionally, Brandin Podziemski and Charles Bassey did not participate in the open practice due to right knee soreness. With this situation, Golden State opens the regular season Wednesday in Los Angeles against the Lakers and Luka Dončić.
