Dallas Open to Gafford Trade Offers, Seeking First-Round Pick

The Dallas Mavericks are not closing the door on moving Daniel Gafford, though they're not willing to do so at any price. According to Brett Siegel, the franchise would be open to listening to offers for the center, but only if the deal includes a first-round pick.

The stance makes sense. Gafford remains a useful big man, under contract with a clear profile: energy, shot-blocking, pick-and-roll finishing, rebounding, and rim protection. He's not a center to build around, but rather a player who can contribute significantly in a competitive rotation.

Dallas acquired him during the 2023/24 season and his impact was immediate on the Mavericks' path to the NBA Finals. His ability to play above the rim and alter shots near the basket gave the team the interior presence it needed.

Last season he had less playing time, but maintained production in limited minutes. According to the official NBA stats, in 2025/26 he averaged 9.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 21.7 minutes, shooting 65.5% from the field.

The question is whether any team will be willing to pay a first-round pick for him. That now seems to be the key point. Dallas is not putting him on the market as a throwaway, but as a piece with value. If a strong offer comes in, they'll listen. If not, they can keep a center who still has a place on the roster.
