Dalton Knecht Joins Knicks on Two-Way Deal After Lakers Release

Dalton Knecht has quickly found a new home. Just four days after being released by the Lakers, the shooting guard has agreed to sign with the New York Knicks on a two-way contract that allows him to split time between the NBA roster and the G League affiliate, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

The move makes sense for both sides. The defending champions are looking for a shooter for the end of the bench after cutting Bruce Brown last week, and Knecht arrives with something to prove: that the player who scored 37 points with nine three-pointers in his first month in the NBA was not a mirage.

A Quick Fall in Los Angeles

The shooting guard from Tennessee, selected 17th overall in the 2024 Draft, struggled to find consistent playing time with the Lakers after that strong rookie start. His inclusion in the trade that was canceled involving Mark Williams in February 2025 marked a turning point, and last season he barely had a role in the rotation: he appeared in 54 games averaging 10 minutes and put up 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists, shooting 34.2 percent from three. This summer's signings pushed him further down the depth chart, and the Lakers ultimately released him after failing to find a trade with the Bucks, Bulls or Jazz.

In New York, his initial role will be limited. With a two-way contract, he can only be available for a restricted number of games with the NBA roster, so he'll have to earn his minutes and, perhaps, a standard contract down the line.
