Besiktas incorporates one of the most productive point guards from the recent Liga Endesa season. The Turkish club has officially announced the signing of David DeJulius, who arrives after a standout campaign with UCAM Murcia.
The 26-year-old American, standing 1.83 meters tall, was one of the key perimeter players for the Murcia squad. In the ACB, he averaged 17.7 points, 4.4 assists, 1.8 rebounds and a rating of 16.6 across 36 games, playing just over 25 minutes per night.
It was far from empty production. DeJulius helped Murcia finish fourth in the regular season in an especially competitive league, and carried much of the team's offensive load from the dribble, pick-and-roll situations, and shooting during crucial moments when the game tightened.
Besiktas is signing a scoring point guard, but not just a scorer. DeJulius can create in pick-and-roll situations, punish opponents from different areas of the court, and take over possessions in tight games. He is a confident player with rhythm and the ability to handle the ball.
His arrival also represents a new opportunity in a EuroLeague project. He previously had a brief stint with Maccabi Tel Aviv, though that spell didn't work out and he ended up on loan at Bursaspor. Before that, he had also competed in Germany and Greece, as part of a European career that now finds an important destination in Istanbul.
For Besiktas, preparing for its return to the top continental level, DeJulius is a signing that makes sense: recent production in the ACB, European experience, and hunger for redemption. He doesn't arrive as a prospect. He arrives as a point guard who has just proven he can score and lead in a major league.
