One name, two possibilities. David McCormack, American center who ended his contract with Bayern Munich, is on the radar of Baskonia and Unicaja as an option to strengthen their frontcourt, according to La Central ACB.
The profile explains the dual interest. At 2.08 meters, 113 kilos, and 27 years old, McCormack is a physical center of the type that are scarce at this stage of the market: a powerful finisher near the rim, strong rebounder, and with a year and a half of recent EuroLeague experience.
A well-traveled player with college pedigree
His name means little to the casual fan, but his résumé has a line that sets him apart: he was NCAA champion in 2022 with Kansas, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds in the final against North Carolina, following a college career in which he was twice named to the Big 12 All-Conference team.
He went undrafted and built his career in Europe starting in Turkey: Besiktas, Darussafaka, and Galatasaray, where he exploded with 14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds in a half season. That opened the EuroLeague door for him in 2024, with a brief stint at Olimpia Milano and a more productive spell at Alba Berlin, before signing with Bayern last September as an emergency reinforcement for the German champions.
In Munich, he finished the season competing in the Bundesliga and EuroLeague under Gordon Herbert, and his contract expired in June, as reflected in our market tracker.
Two different needs
The fit differs depending on the destination. Paolo Galbiati's Baskonia has completely revamped its perimeter this summer but has barely touched the frontcourt, where Khalifa Diop needs a reliable partner. Unicaja, meanwhile, is looking to complete its interior rotation following the departures of Balcerowski and Tyson Pérez, and has already tested the NBA market with James Wiseman.
For both, McCormack offers the same thing: immediate physical presence, knowledge of European basketball, and the price tag of a free agent.
