DeJulius Remains at Besiktas Despite Lonnie Walker IV Signing

Lonnie Walker IV's signing has put the spotlight on David DeJulius, the point guard on loan to Besiktas from UCAM Murcia. So far there have been no moves: according to journalist Olga Lorente, the Turkish club has not contacted UCAM to cancel the loan, so DeJulius remains at the disposal of head coach Dusan Alimpijevic. Any decision about his future would have to go through Murcia, which retains his rights.

The situation has a history. DeJulius renewed with UCAM in March through 2028, but in July he informed the club that he did not want to honor that contract and wanted to move to Besiktas. The case went to the FIBA Arbitration Court and was settled in September with a one-season loan in exchange for financial compensation to UCAM. The player is set to return to Murcia for the 2027-28 season.

The problem for DeJulius is sporting. In Murcia he was the second-leading scorer in the Liga Endesa and was part of the All-Star five for the season. In Istanbul, his role in the EuroLeague is minimal: around 10 minutes per game and 2.5 points per game across four contests. Only in the Turkish league does he have a role similar to what he had in Spain. With Walker's arrival, another wing with scoring ability, it will be difficult for him to earn minutes in Europe.
