Four seconds, tied at 85, and one final possession. Olimpia Milano defeated Virtus Bologna 87-85 in the Italian derby with a buzzer-beating basket from Devon Hall at the Mediolanum Forum.
A game of two opposite halves
The start belonged to Milan. A three-pointer from Marko Guduric and a basket from Alec Peters opened up a 5-0 lead, and although Virtus responded with four straight points from Diarra and a three-pointer from Frazier to take the lead, Olimpia closed the first quarter at 30-20.
The advantage held until halftime (47-41), though the Bologna squad kept chipping away.
The third quarter was Virtus's best: they allowed few points and scored twenty-six, which allowed them to flip the scoreboard and enter the final quarter ahead (66-67).

The final seconds
The ending belonged to Hall. The small forward hit a three-pointer for 85-83 that seemed to put the game on track, but Diarra responded with a basket that tied it at 85 with four seconds remaining.
One possession was left for Olimpia. And Hall appeared again: a basket at the buzzer and 87-85.
In the previous play, moreover, Moses Wright forced a charging foul that proved crucial in allowing Milan to keep their chances alive.
The numbers
Guduric was the leading scorer for the home team with 14 points, followed by Darius Thompson and Hall himself with 12 each. RJ Cole and Wright added 11, the latter with seven rebounds. Jason Burnell grabbed ten rebounds.
For Virtus Bologna, the standouts were Aliou Diarra, with 15 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Wendell Moore, with 12 points, Marcus Carr, with 10 points and 9 assists, and Derrick Alston Jr, with 10 points.
What it means
It's Olimpia Milano's first victory in the competition, after falling in Belgrade to Partizan in their opener. Virtus, meanwhile, suffers their second consecutive loss after falling in Istanbul to Fenerbahce.
