Barcelona Unveils Eleven New Signings, Faces Season With Only Four Returning Players

Barcelona put its revolution on display on Tuesday. The club officially presented the eleven signings that complete an almost entirely renovated roster, doing so just hours before competing in the Copa Catalunya, the season's first official title.

The eleven are Umoja Gibson, Agustín Ubal, Josh Nebo, Stanley Umude, Olek Balcerowski, Tyrese Martin, Tosan Evbuomwan, Yoan Makoundou, Justin Robinson, Olivier Nkamhoua and Justin Minaya. Only four players continue from last season.

The Sports Director's Explanation

Xevi Pujol, the new key figure in managing the basketball section, was the one who articulated the project. He spoke of an intense summer and changes across all areas, and defined the common denominator of the signings: athletic profile, fresh legs, good mentality and desire to improve.

The key point of his remarks, however, was different. He explained that the sports management has prioritized player profile over traditional positions, seeking a balance between personality and characteristics that will help the team grow. In other words, signings were not made based on positions, but on player types, betting on versatility.

Pujol also acknowledged what the major challenge is: getting eleven new players to adapt simultaneously to the demands of the ACB, EuroLeague and a club like this, in a season of more than eighty games. He pointed to official competition as the tool to build the team, develop it tactically and progressively assimilate the style of play the coaching staff is seeking.

What the New Players Said

Nearly all of them spoke at the event. Justin Robinson and Josh Nebo agreed that the objective is to win. Agustín Ubal and Olek Balcerowski stressed the need to recover the fans' enthusiasm and reconnect with the Palau Blaugrana. Tyrese Martin, Stanley Umude and Umoja Gibson expressed eagerness to start competing.

Justin Minaya, whose signing was made official last week, championed a dynamic, fast and entertaining Barcelona, in line with what was already hinted at in the Encamp friendly. Olivier Nkamhoua emphasized the club's prestige and the opportunity to continue developing. And Yoan Makoundou closed with a brief message for the fans: see you at the Palau.

For Tosan Evbuomwan, moreover, this will be his first experience in European basketball, the same as for Minaya. The two, interestingly, faced each other last season in the Eastern Conference Finals of the G League.

The team arrives at its first official commitments after wrapping up its preseason in Andorra, which ended with a single victory over MoraBanc in overtime. Ahead lies the Liga Catalana as a starting point, then the Spanish Super Cup and subsequently the start of the ACB and EuroLeague.
