ago 02 2026Real Madrid has positioned itself favorably to sign Armoni Brooks, one of the most attractive players available after ASVEL Villeurbanne's budget cuts. The American shooting guard, recently signed by the French club, could leave without making his debut.
The ASVEL situation is opening unexpected opportunities. The club went from designing an ambitious roster to having to drastically revise its budget, and several important players have begun seeking opportunities away from Villeurbanne. Sylvain Francisco already ended up at Panathinaikos, Daniel Theis is negotiating with Maccabi, and Brooks now appears as another piece in motion.
Madrid is looking for a perimeter scorer and Brooks' profile fits. He is 28 years old, 1.91 meters tall, and comes off two strong seasons at Olimpia Milano, where he built a reputation as a reliable shooter and a player capable of producing without needing the ball constantly.
Last season he averaged 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in EuroLeague play, with a notable 41.6% from three-point range. That statistic explains much of the interest: Madrid needs real perimeter threat, a player who can space the floor and punish from beyond the arc.
Real Madrid is not the only club paying attention. Valencia Basket is also in the race, while Maccabi, Crvena Zvezda, and Partizan have been monitoring his situation. According to the latest reports, the Madrid club is currently in a better position than the rest.
The move, however, has an important nuance for the ACB: Brooks would occupy a non-EU roster spot.
