The club strengthens its interior game with a physically dominant young player with significant growth potential. He arrives backed by solid statistics from the NCAA, G League, and NBA.
Club Baloncesto Breogán has reached an official agreement to sign Dominican power forward Andersson Mejía García (25 years old, 2.01 meters).
Born in Moca, Dominican Republic, Andy García is a player developed at Mississippi State and Texas A&M universities (NCAA). In his final year with the Texas A&M Aggies, he proved to be a defensive cornerstone, averaging 6.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, with a 38.6% three-point percentage, establishing himself as one of the best rebounders in his conference.
After his NCAA stint, in 2025 he played for the Marineros de Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic's National Basketball League, where he was named Rookie of the Year.
Last season he made the jump to the American development league, wearing the Mexico City Capitanes jersey (in the American G League), where he evolved impressively in the paint, posting performances of up to 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists in a single game, reaching an individual record of 21 rebounds captured.
His averages in 39 games were 10.9 points, 10.2 rebounds (a double-double) and 2.1 assists in 26 minutes on the court.
His strong progression earned him a jump to the NBA this same season with the Utah Jazz, where he took advantage of a short-term contract opportunity to play in 5 games. In them he averaged 5.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks per game, displaying first-class defensive versatility and rebounding prowess, which the Pazo will now benefit from.
Andersson García is also one of the standout players for the Dominican Republic national team.
With his arrival in Lugo, Río Breogán adds a power forward of enormous physical capacity and great rebounding prowess on both ends of the court, who will also bring energy and defensive intensity to the team's interior game, in an exciting year in which the club will face demanding challenges in its 60th anniversary.
