La Laguna Tenerife has secured the services of Icelandic international Elvar Fridriksson through the end of the season. The new Canary Islands player, a 1.83m point guard, comes from Polish side Anwil Wloclawek and has experience across various European leagues.
Fridriksson (Reykjavik, 11/11/1994) averaged 13.5 points, 6.3 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game this season with an efficiency rating of 17.1 across 32 games in Poland, where his team was recently eliminated in the play-in round before the quarterfinal playoffs.
Elvar's career includes significant stints across several European leagues in France, Sweden, Lithuania, Belgium, Italy, Latvia, Greece and Poland, along with solid experience in continental competitions such as the FIBA Europe Cup (35 games) and the Basketball Champions League (24), a tournament where he became one of only three players in history to record a triple-double: 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, with PAOK against Galatasaray, in October 2023.
Fridriksson, recently named April MVP in the Polish league, is also a regular with his country's senior national team since 2014, with a total of 56 official caps. La Laguna Tenerife's new player made his debut in his country's top division at just 16 years old with Njarovik, the club where he developed before embarking on his American college career: one year at Long Island University (2014/15) and three at Barry University (NCAA II).
Upon his return to Europe, he played for French side Denain Voltaire (18/19), Swedish Boras Basket (19/20), Lithuanian Siauliai (20/21), Belgian Antwerp (21/22), Italian Tortona (21/22), Lithuanian Rytas Vilnius (22/23) and Greek clubs PAOK Salonica (23/24) and Maroussi (24/25), before signing with Polish Anwil Wloclawek at the start of this season.
The new Canary Islands player arrived on the island last night and watched the second half of the game against Joventut from the stands. This morning, he underwent the required medical examination at Hospiten Rambla facilities and is ready to join the team's training group.
