Eurocup Matchday 2: Only Kids&Us Manresa Wins Among Spanish Teams

Por ·

Matchday 2 of the Eurocup left the three Spanish teams in the same position with one win and one loss, though by different paths. Kids&Us Manresa found in Europe the first victory it has yet to achieve in the Liga Endesa, while La Laguna Tenerife and Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos suffered their first defeats away from home. In the upper half, six teams remain undefeated. In Group B, however, no one can break away: after two matchdays, all eight teams are 1-1.

The Spanish Teams

Kids&Us Manresa 101-89 ratiopharm Ulm. Manresa needed a win and got it in its European debut at Nou Congost. A second quarter with a barrage of three-pointers (9 of 14 at halftime) gave them an advantage that Ulm cut into after the break with back-to-back threes from Devin Schmidt and a basket from Simisola Shittu. Ocampo called timeout, JD Notae and Nick Ongenda restored breathing room, and Ferran Bassas set the pace down the stretch. Timmy Allen posted 30 points and Notae added 20.

London Lions 89-77 La Laguna Tenerife. Jaka Lakovic's team won the first quarter, but London Lions turned it around in the second (28-23) and never relinquished control. Thomas Kennedy dominated the paint with 12 of 13 from two-point range, and the free throw line decided the rest: 28 of 36 for the hosts versus 11 of 21 for La Laguna Tenerife. Shermadini (18) and T.J. Bamba (16) led a team that went scoreless from three-point range, with Kyle Guy shooting 1 of 9 from deep.

Aris 93-80 Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos. Burgos left the game before halftime: a 14-0 run between the first and second quarters and a 53-30 halftime score. Chase Audige (25) led the comeback attempt, and Doumbouya (18) and Dani Díez got it to within twelve (83-71), but Nenad Dimitrijevic, with 21 points, shut down any comeback hopes.
