EuroCup Matchday 3 Preview: Three Spanish Teams Face Six Undefeated Sides

Por ·

Liga Endesa takes a break as the EuroCup resumes with no respite for Spain's three representatives. All three arrive with a 1-1 record or needing a home win, facing quality opposition. Matchday 3 features six undefeated teams squaring off against six winless sides, with the top group set to begin separating.

Manresa travels to in-form Bahcesehir

Kids&Us Manresa opens the matchday on Tuesday (18:00) in Istanbul against Bahcesehir College, which arrives with two wins and a club record: a 41-point victory over Botevgrad last time out, with seven players in double figures. For the Catalan side, still winless in Liga Endesa, the EuroCup is currently their best showcase. They defeated ratiopharm ulm 101-points with Timmy Allen scoring 30. The matchup between Allen and Luka Mitrovic, who could make his Bahcesehir debut, shapes up as the game's key battle.

Burgos faces league's best defense

On Wednesday (20:30), Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos hosts one of the undefeated sides, Hapoel Jerusalem. The Israelis allow just 68.5 points per game, the competition's lowest figure, testing Burgos scorer Chase Audige, who averages 17.5 points. Porfi Fisac's team arrives with little rest after a week of three road games and a Liga Endesa loss in Bilbao.

Tenerife needs their center

La Laguna Tenerife closes out Wednesday (21:00) against Maxima Roma. Both lost last week: the Canary Islanders in London and the Italians decisively at Turk Telekom. The key could lie in the paint. In London, Giorgi Shermadini was Tenerife's best with 18 points, but the Georgian went down late in Sunday's game in Murcia. His presence will be decisive against Miro Bilan, who averages 12 points and 7 rebounds for Roma.

Six undefeated teams in action

Bahcesehir, PAOK, Tofas, Napoli, Aris, and Hapoel Jerusalem defend their 2-0 records, with four facing rivals also eyeing the upper standings. The most attractive matchup is Tofas against Buducnost: point guard Bryce Jones, averaging 15.5 points and 7 assists, against Yogi Ferrell. Also notable is Aris-Derthona, pitting wings Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, who has back-to-back double-doubles, against Justin Gorham, second in competition rating. Napoli, back in the EuroCup after twenty years, visits Slask Wroclaw, which arrives in form after recording 16 steals in Trento.

At the other end, defending champion Bourg seeks its first win in Klaipeda against winless Neptunas. Botevgrad visits Roma, where Nico Mannion averages 25 points, hunting their first-ever EuroCup victory. The matchday closes Thursday with London Lions-Skyliners Frankfurt, with Thomas Kennedy, last matchday's MVP, as the major local threat.
