EuroLeague: Baskonia Targets Marcus Bingham Jr.'s Physicality and Defensive Presence
Baskonia continues to move in the market ahead of the upcoming season and has a new name marked in red to strengthen its interior game. The Vitoria-based club is negotiating the signing of Marcus Bingham Jr., an American center who just completed a solid campaign with UNICS Kazan and could make his EuroLeague debut in the 2026/27 season.
At 25 years old, the 6'11" big man has established himself as one of the most eye-catching profiles in European basketball due to his athletic ability, mobility, and defensive production. In the VTB League, he averaged 15.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks, while also posting strong shooting percentages near the rim and emerging as an increasingly reliable three-point threat.
His growth in Europe has been rapid. After stints with Hapoel Haifa, where he posted a historic 27-rebound performance in the Israeli league, Bingham took a step forward with Hapoel Tel Aviv, the team with which he won the EuroCup in the 2024/25 season. Following that experience, he landed in Kazan, where he finished establishing himself as one of the most productive centers in the competition.
At Baskonia, they particularly value his ability to contest shots, run the floor, and take up significant space on defense thanks to his enormous wingspan. Developed at Michigan State, the American has always stood out for his impact on the defensive end, though in recent seasons he has expanded his offensive arsenal and shown the ability to space the floor.
The blue-and-white club faces a summer with potential significant moves across several positions, and the paint is one of the areas that could see changes. Bingham's potential arrival would fit the idea of adding more physicality, energy, and versatility to the roster.
Conversations between both parties are advancing and, although there is no closed agreement yet, Marcus Bingham Jr.'s name is gaining momentum to become one of Baskonia's new centers for the upcoming season.
