EuroLeague Matchday 6 Preview: Barcelona-Olympiacos and Perasovic's Debut

Por ·

Just 48 hours after one of the most striking comebacks in recent years, Olympiacos returns to Spain. On Friday, they visit Palau Blaugrana (20:30) to face Barcelona, who beat Maccabi with a Justin Robinson three-pointer with 1.6 seconds remaining. It's the marquee matchup of Matchday 6, which closes the first double-week of the season. Both teams arrive with concerns: Barcelona suffered more than expected on Tuesday, and Olympiacos needed 25 minutes to wake up at Roig Arena. With Jean Montero (26 points against Valencia) and Evan Fournier, the Greeks now have a 4-1 record and the momentum from a night they won't soon forget. The last major precedent at Palau favors Olympiacos: in 2024 they won Game 5 of the playoffs there (59-63) and eliminated Barcelona.

Perasovic Makes His Debut in Bologna

The other focus on Friday is in Bologna. Velimir Perasovic, who arrives in Vitoria on Thursday, will coach Kosner Baskonia for the first time just one day after his arrival, on the court of Virtus against Àlex Mumbrú (20:30). Baskonia, at 1-4, comes off a brutal week: the loss to Dubai, the dismissal of Paolo Galbiati, and the departures of Markus Howard and Alex Len. They'll face a Virtus in good form, who won in Paris on Wednesday in the final second and have a 3-2 record.

Valencia Looks to Bounce Back Against Maccabi

On Thursday, Valencia Basket must turn the page in record time. They host Maccabi Tel Aviv at Roig Arena (20:30), with the loss to Olympiacos still fresh. Xavi Albert's team remains atop the table (4-1), but will need to show that Tuesday's second-half collapse was just a blip. Maccabi arrives at 1-4 after losing at Palau to Robinson's three-pointer.

Real Madrid Looks to Keep Winning

Real Madrid (2-3) plays at home against ASVEL (21:00), also on Thursday. Pedro Martínez's side come off a win in Milan thanks to a strong second quarter and have the chance to even their record. ASVEL (2-3) lost by two points to Crvena Zvezda in their last game.

Panathinaikos Defends Unbeaten Record

The competition's only unbeaten team, Panathinaikos under Zeljko Obradovic, hosts Hapoel Tel Aviv on Friday (20:15), who arrive after a dominant win over Besiktas and with five players scoring 15 or more points. The rest of the matchday features matchups like Fenerbahçe-Partizan, Crvena Zvezda-Paris at Belgrade Arena, Zalgiris-Anadolu Efes in Kaunas, Besiktas-Bayern, and Armani Milano-Dubai on Thursday.
