Trent Forrest has become the center of attention in the EuroLeague market following his outstanding performance in recent months with Baskonia. The American point guard's contract expires in June, and his growth between January and April has made him one of the most sought-after names by several clubs across the continent.
According to reports from Javier Maestro, two teams are already actively moving to try to sign him: Red Star and Panathinaikos. Both are looking to strengthen their backcourt and see the Vitoria-based player as a very interesting market opportunity, especially as he becomes a free agent this summer.
Forrest's progression throughout the season has been remarkable. The point guard had already made a strong impression last season at Baskonia, to the point of attracting the interest of Anadolu Efes. However, his impact in the current campaign has raised his stock even further, especially after being named MVP of the latest Copa del Rey.
The Vitoria club will attempt to negotiate his continuity, although they are aware of the difficulty in competing economically with the offers that could come from other major EuroLeague teams. Various sources suggest that the player could reach contracts exceeding two million dollars net per season.
In the case of Red Star, Forrest appears as a possible piece to cover a potential departure of Codi Miller-McIntyre, the former Baskonia point guard who is represented by the same agency as Forrest. The player has been linked with Olympiacos, according to Greek journalist Tolis Kotzias.
Panathinaikos is also looking to strengthen its point guard position. The Athens-based club is analyzing options given the age of Kostas Sloukas, 36, and the performance of TJ Shorts, a player whose future with the club appears uncertain in their planning.
Interest in Forrest is not limited to Serbia and Greece. In Spain, both Valencia Basket and Barcelona are also closely monitoring his situation while working on building their rosters for next season. Although both clubs are exploring different alternatives, the Baskonia point guard is among the players being watched in the market.
