Baskonia Dominates Zaragoza 115-88 to Claim Third Place

Kosner Baskonia put on a dominant display Wednesday against Casademont Zaragoza, winning 115-88 to claim third place in the Liga Endesa standings. The home team controlled the game from the opening minutes, at one point building a 38-point lead.

The Basque side matched UCAM Murcia in the standings with 17 wins, while Zaragoza remains just one victory above the relegation zone.

Baskonia's 15 three-pointers at 50% accuracy and the energy of Rafa Villar, who tied Trent Forrest for team-high 26 in the efficiency rating, paced a balanced offensive onslaught.

Devin Robinson led the visitors and was their most active player on a difficult day for Zaragoza, physically overwhelmed by a sharp Baskonia squad.

The Vitoria-based team struck hard from the opening tip with five consecutive three-pointers without a miss, opening a difficult gap for Zaragoza, whose defense lacked aggression on the ball, resulting in a 17-4 start.

Trent Forrest orchestrated the blue-and-white offense in the early stages while Justin Wright-Foreman held his own against Baskonia's relentless pace.

Basque speed dismantled Zaragoza, who tried to match their opponents' tempo but suffered on the defensive end in a first quarter marked by eight three-pointers from Paolo Galbiati's squad, closing the period 38-17.

With the game well in hand, the second quarter saw Baskonia's offensive firepower prove too much for Zaragoza's roster, who struggled to score.

Joaquín Rodríguez showed character and Devin Robinson capitalized on second-chance opportunities in a crowded paint, but Zaragoza's problem was on the other end of the floor.

When Tim Luwawu-Cabarrot entered the game, Joan Plaza's team's problems multiplied—they couldn't get five defenders out to stop Baskonia's five, and the lead ballooned to 30 points.

A 6-17 run gave Zaragoza some breathing room as they improved defensively and attacked the offensive glass, heading into halftime with better momentum after a strong five-minute stretch that changed the team's complexion, 62-43, after winning the second quarter.

The visitors' defensive fragility returned to the script of the first half with an 11-2 run out of the locker room.

Rafa Villar provided an energy boost to restore his team's rhythm, though the scoreboard was never in danger.

The Basque team's physical superiority was evident as they stretched the lead beyond 30 points again, though a minor Zaragoza comeback left the contest heading into the fourth quarter at 96-66.

Baskonia maintained the pressure and Zaragoza continued fighting. Joan Plaza tried everything—full-court press, switching defense, and zone coverage—but it wasn't Zaragoza's day despite their efforts to chip away at the deficit. In the end, the Vitoria side cruised to a comfortable 115-88 victory.
