sep 18 2026The first semifinal in SuperCup history was decided on the final possession with the ball in the air. Olympiacos defeated Fenerbahce 92-90 in Abu Dhabi to become the tournament's first finalist, with Evan Fournier hitting the decisive basket and Jean Montero blocking Turkey's final attempt.
A Different Fenerbahce Than in Athens
It was a rematch of last season's Final Four semifinal, which Olympiacos settled decisively. This time there was nothing of the sort. Sarunas Jasikevicius's team, profoundly revamped this summer with nine signings, offered a much more solid version and controlled long stretches of the game backed by their outside shooting accuracy.
Piraeus, however, never fell behind. Fournier ignited the comeback and ended up being the player who put his team ahead with 53 seconds remaining.
The Final Fifty Seconds
From there, a finish for the ages. Shavon Shields missed a three-pointer for the Turkish side and Cory Joseph missed another on the other end, leaving the ball in Fenerbahce's hands to force overtime or win. Talen Horton-Tucker attempted a difficult shot inside the arc and missed. Braxton Key grabbed the offensive rebound but took too long to kick it back out to the perimeter, forcing Wade Baldwin to launch an off-balance shot from well beyond the arc. Montero got a hand on the ball and the shot didn't even reach the rim.
The Numbers
Fournier led the champions with 19 points. Donta Hall posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Cory Joseph added 10.
Special mention goes to Jean Montero, who contributed 13 points and the crucial defensive play at the end despite arriving late to Abu Dhabi due to visa issues. He makes his debut with strong impressions after leaving Valencia Basket. The other signing, Codi Miller-McIntyre, finished with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists.
For Fenerbahce, Shavon Shields led the way with 18 points, followed by Braxton Key with 17 and Marcus Bingham with 10. Wade Baldwin added 9, and Will Clyburn and Horton-Tucker had 8 each.
