Leyma Coruña and Monbus Obradoiro have battled throughout the season as the primary candidates for direct promotion, locked in a tight race at the top of the table that reaches its conclusion this Friday. The Santiago side will claim the title with a victory, or the Coruña side will secure it from a distance.
Nine months have passed since Primera FEB kicked off the season, and in that time, two Galician teams have waged an intense battle at the top of the standings in their pursuit of the league title. A head-to-head race that will reach its climax this Friday, transformed into a winner-take-all showdown that will determine whether the title goes to Monbus Obradoiro or Leyma Coruña.
Leyma Coruña concluded their participation in the regular season last weekend with a rest day on Friday night, and they did so with a victory that made the stakes crystal clear in the fight for direct promotion. Because the season's grand objective will be decided on the court at Fontes do Sar, where Inveready Gipuzkoa will be the final arbiter of an equation that will send Monbus Obradoiro to the Liga Endesa in case of victory over the Donostia side, or that will instead deliver the title to the Coliseum in Coruña if Sergio García's team manages to pull off a road upset.
Diego Epifanio's side will face this matchup with full ambition and a packed arena behind them as they try not to let slip a historic opportunity. But to do so, they will need to impose their style of play against an Inveready Gipuzkoa that has been one of the competition's surprises throughout the season and that will arrive in Santiago with much on the line. Because the blue side, already qualified for the Playoffs for promotion, will fight for a fifth-place finish that would give them home-court advantage in that first elimination round for promotion.
And that will be the battle playing out in the background on a night in which the Playoffs bracket for the second promotion spot will also take shape in parallel to the league title. A path in which Movistar Estudiantes will be the second seed as a reward for their Copa España triumph regardless of what happens in their Madrid derby against Flexicar Fuenlabrada. Something that will not diminish the value of a matchup in which the Madrid side is fighting for their final position in the standings, alongside Alimerka Oviedo, who will visit Cloud.Gal Ourense with nothing left to play for on a night in which a three-way tie between both teams and Inveready Gipuzkoa could favor the Oviedo side.
Although the pressure in that fight for the final phase will be at the Ángel Nieto Pavilion in Zamora, where fate has decreed that Caja Rural Zamora will play for their playoff spot against the team that marks the cutoff, an HLA Alicante that they will need to defeat by more than 8 points to reverse their fortunes. A clash in which Rubén Perelló's side will try to confirm that position they have maintained throughout the season to face Movistar Estudiantes in the first round.
And no less intense will be the night for the teams involved in the fight for survival, where Melilla Ciudad del Deporte will say goodbye to the category once again after their relegation with their visit to Hestia Menorca on a Friday of tension for their predecessors in the standings. A night that will begin with Grupo Ureta Tizona already safe, but acting as judge of the relegation battle against a Grupo Caesa Cartagena that can only win in a duel that will be watched closely by the other two candidates, Palmer Basket Mallorca and Fibwi Mallorca Palma, who will face each other in a Balearic derby in which the winner would escape relegation without needing to look at what happens in El Plantío.
