Insolac Caja 87 Secures First Victory as Cajasiete Gran Canaria Solidifies Lead

Por ·

Second matchday of competition and only six undefeated teams remain in Primera FEB—the same ones still without a victory. A league in which Insolac Caja 87 claimed their historic first victory this weekend and in which Bueno Arenas Albacete took their first step toward survival with a century-mark triumph. Two teams advancing toward their objectives in a category where Cajasiete Gran Canaria continues as a solid leader.

Second week as leader of Primera FEB for Cajasiete Gran Canaria, who defeated Partizan de Fuenlabrada at the Fernando Martín to maintain their position atop the standings.

Iberolea Palencia had to work hard to overcome a fighting Cajasol Coto Córdoba at home, and that would allow Natxo Lezkano's squad to hold the top spot Friday night. But that first place wouldn't last long for the Palencia team, as the first-week leader quickly reclaimed the top position. Cajasiete Gran Canaria showed themselves in Fuenlabrada as a flawless team, defeating a rival that took another step forward but couldn't match the depth of the Canary Islands squad's bench (68-79).

Two teams that would be joined at the top of the table by HLA Alicante, who gave no chance to Bàsquet Menorca in Mahón, and Movistar Estudiantes, who had to work hard to secure victory on the road against Caja Rural Zamora thanks to 13 consecutive points from Micah Speight in the final minute and a half. All this before Sunday's matchups, where Grupo Alega Cantabria would solidify their position among the leaders by rallying in the second half of their matchup in Son Moix, and Ourense Baloncesto would establish themselves in San Sebastián to match their 2-0 record against Inveready Askatuak Gipuzkoa.

A weekend in which Insolac Caja 87 claimed their historic first victory by defeating Palmer Basket Mallorca at home before nearly 5,000 spectators, and in which Bueno Arenas Albacete claimed their first win of the season in a century-mark matchup on the road against Grupo Ureta Tizona Burgos. A first victory that also went to Covirán Granada, who didn't falter in Oviedo to claim their first points of the season.
