Baskonia is making moves in the market. According to journalist Xavi Ballesteros, Jabari Parker could become the new player for the Vitoria-based club, which is going through a difficult start to the EuroLeague season. Encestando has also reported that both parties are negotiating, although the deal is not yet closed.
The American small forward has been a free agent since last Friday, when Partizan announced the termination of his contract, which was set to run through the end of the season. Parker was not in Joan Peñarroya's plans since the summer, and the Serbian club wanted to free up a salary of around €2.5 million.
A signing with no roster spot cost
One of the attractions of the deal lies in his passport. According to Encestando, Parker holds citizenship of a country that is a signatory to the Cotonou Agreement, so he would not take up a non-EU roster spot in the Liga Endesa. This would leave Baskonia's third non-EU spot free for another reinforcement, and the club is also looking for a center, which they consider their priority.
Get to know Liga Endesa
Parker would arrive at a Baskonia in full crisis. Velimir Perasović's team is last in the EuroLeague with a 1-7 record, lost on Tuesday to Real Madrid amid whistles and white handkerchiefs from their fans, and lost Markus Howard, who left the club in mid-October. The former NBA player knows Liga Endesa well: he spent two seasons at Barcelona and last season finished on loan at Joventut, where he averaged 12.3 points and 4.6 rebounds. In April, in fact, he scored 16 points and 3 steals in a Joventut victory over Baskonia (81-69).
