Jaka Lakovic Departs as Dreamland Gran Canaria Head Coach

The Slovenian coach steps down after 213 games and a EuroCup championship with the club.

Jaka Lakovic arrived on the island in the summer of 2022 from German side ratiopharm Ulm. Over nearly four seasons, the Slovenian directed a total of 213 games across Liga Endesa, Playoffs, Copa del Rey, EuroCup, and FIBA Basketball Champions League.

During his time on the island, Lakovic won the BKT EuroCup 2023 championship, led the team to another continental final, and reached the Copa del Rey 2025 semifinals, while also competing in the Liga Endesa playoff race in all three seasons. Over three seasons, he qualified the team for all league playoff phases as well as every Copa del Rey edition, and played in European playoffs for three consecutive years—something the club hadn't achieved since the 2017-18 season. The Balkan coach leaves an indelible mark on the club's history.

CB Gran Canaria thanks the coach for his professionalism and commitment shown over these four years, and wishes him the best of luck in his future professional and personal projects.

Víctor García will take charge of the team until the arrival of the new head coach.
