Johannes Thiemann Targets Bayern Munich, Prepares EuroLeague Return

Johannes Thiemann is close to returning to the EuroLeague. According to Donatas Urbonas at BasketNews, the German center is finalizing a multi-year agreement with Bayern Munich, marking his return to Europe's top competition after two seasons in Japan.

The 32-year-old player comes from competing with Gunma Crane Thunders, one of the standout teams in the Japanese league. There he averaged 11.4 points, 6 rebounds and 2.7 assists, maintaining a productive and well-rounded profile away from the European spotlight.

His possible arrival at Bayern would carry special significance given the context. Thiemann would not only return to Germany, but also to a EuroLeague he knows well after five seasons with ALBA Berlin. In his last campaign in the competition, 2023/24, he posted 12.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 16.4 efficiency rating in 25 minutes per game.

Bayern would thus add a versatile, experienced center capable of contributing in different ways: he can produce near the basket, play with vision from interior positions and provide offensive continuity without needing to monopolize the ball.

Additionally, Thiemann is part of Germany's most successful basketball generation. He was a key piece in Germany's gold at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, gold at EuroBasket 2025 and continental bronze in 2022. His return to the EuroLeague would strengthen Bayern with a proven, competitive player fully identified with German basketball.
