Kevin Knox on Unicaja's Radar After Magic Release

Unicaja looks to the NBA to cover injuries. The Málaga club is negotiating the signing of Kevin Knox II, according to reports from Álex Molina. The American small forward became a free agent on Friday when the Orlando Magic released him after the preseason.

Knox joined the Magic on an Exhibit 10 contract, which was not guaranteed, and played a very limited role in the preseason: 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in less than ten minutes per game across four contests. His release opens the door to his first experience outside the United States.

From No. 9 Draft Pick to G League

A product of the University of Kentucky, Knox was selected by the New York Knicks with the 9th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He never lived up to the expectations of that selection. After leaving New York in 2022, he played for the Hawks, Pistons, Trail Blazers, and Warriors, accumulating 320 NBA games with 7.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game on average.

Last season he played entirely in the G League, where he demonstrated that his offensive talent remains intact. With the Windy City Bulls, he averaged 21.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists across 39 games, shooting 41.4% from three-point range.

The move responds to injuries in the roster. Tyson Pérez underwent Achilles tendon surgery and will miss a significant portion of the season, and Alberto Díaz will also be sidelined for several weeks. To cover for the point guard position, the club already signed Matt Thomas on a temporary two-month contract. Knox would be the reinforcement for the small forward or power forward position on a team that, after winning in Manresa, has evened its record (2-2).
