Historic Scoring Opener: Liga Endesa Averages 94.8 Points Per Team in Opening Matchday

1,706 points across nine games. The opening matchday of the 2026-27 Liga Endesa season averaged 94.8 points per team, the highest figure in the competition since 1987 and the highest-scoring opening matchday in its entire history.

Three records in one weekend

The opening weekend produced several milestones worth breaking down.

It is the highest-scoring matchday in 39 years and the fourth in the entire ACB era. Only three rounds from the 1986-87 season surpass it: matchday 25 (98.3), matchday 21 (95.5), and matchday 12 (95).

It is also the most productive opening matchday ever, and by a significant margin. The previous record was 90.9 points from 1986-87, and last season opened with 84.7.

And it is the first time in the ACB era that three games in the same matchday ended with both teams scoring over 100 points. The previous high was two.

How these numbers were reached

Saturday set the tone. Surne Bilbao reached 107 points against Manresa, their fourth highest-scoring game in Liga Endesa, and in Andorra MoraBanc and Obradoiro played a high-paced 85-90 contest.

But it was Barcelona-Leyma Coruña (119-101) that pushed the scoring records: the Blaugrana posted the third highest-scoring total in an opening matchday in ACB history.

Sunday followed the same script from midday onward. Breogán and Joventut went to 110-104 without overtime at the Pazo, and almost simultaneously San Pablo Burgos and Baskonia came close to 100 in a game decided in the final seconds (97-98).

In the afternoon, Valencia and Lleida went head-to-head at the Roig Arena (100-105), the third matchup with triple digits on the scoreboard. And Real Madrid and Unicaja closed the matchday with a tight 89-87 contest.

Only two games fell below the average: Tenerife-Casademont (80-81) and Girona-UCAM (84-77).

Seven teams reach 100 points

Another highlight from the weekend: seven different teams reached 100 points. With the current 18-team format, the record for a single matchday was six. The all-time record remains eight teams from matchday 17 of the 1988-89 season.

A trend that is not new

None of this comes out of nowhere. Liga Endesa had four consecutive seasons of scoring growth: 81.5 points per team in 2022-23, 83.2 in 2023-24, 86.2 in 2024-25, and 88.2 in 2025-26.

That last figure made last season the second highest-scoring in the competition's history, behind only 1986-87 with its record of 89.6.

With this opening, the trend intensifies.
