Forty Minutes Without a Clear Leader

The game had no clear leader at any point. Olympiacos started hot—opening with a 7/7 from the field—but Virtus responded with Alioù Diarra and Carr to close the first quarter ahead (33-30). In the second, the hosts strung together an 11-0 run that rattled the champions, though the Greeks finished the period strong and went into halftime up by one (49-50).

The third quarter belonged to Virtus, which built a seven-point lead (70-63) and closed the quarter 75-70. The fourth became a back-and-forth affair in which Olympiacos clawed back to within five points.

The Final Stretch, Basket for Basket

From 89-89 onward, there was no room for error. The score went through 92-93 and, with six seconds on the clock, Montero scored to put Olympiacos up 93-94. One possession remained. Carr took it and settled it from beyond the line: 96-94 and the Segafredo Arena on its feet.

Carr Signed Off on Everything

The point guard didn't just hit the last shot. He finished with 22 points, ten assists, and a 5/8 from three-point range, and was the one who sustained the home attack whenever Olympiacos threatened to pull away. Alongside him, Diarra posted a solid double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, Derrick Alston Jr. contributed 17, and Wendell Moore added 12.

Ndiaye Left Empty-Handed

For Olympiacos, the best performer was the least expected. Mbaye Ndiaye scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just twenty minutes, shooting 10/11 from two-point range and 3/3 from the free-throw line, and was the one who kept the Greeks in the game in the final quarter. He left without a reward.

Tyler Dorsey chipped in with 22 points and a 6/9 from three-point range, and Sasha Vezenkov added 20 points and six rebounds. Evan Fournier, MVP of the latest Final Four, finished with just six points and seven rebounds. The Greek press pointed to the fatigue of a schedule packed with travel as a factor in the outcome.
