Asisa Joventut is the first finalist of the Supercopa after defeating Kosner Baskonia 96-84. The Laprovittola-Rubio duo proved too much for the Vitoria squad, which played well in the first half but was overwhelmed by Joventut's offense in the second. In particular, Laprovittola, in his return to Joventut, was key to Asisa's advance to the final with his 27 points and 10 assists, as the team now awaits its opponent for tomorrow.
The first Supercopa Endesa semifinal began with a lengthy back-and-forth scoring exchange between both teams. The perimeter shooting of Penya (Ricky, Reyes, Laprovittola) accounted for all of the green-and-black squad's points, while Kosner stayed competitive (15-14 at the 5-minute mark).
Nico Laprovittola (9 points) took control of the Badalona offense, but Asisa's poor three-point shooting (2/9) was exploited by Kosner Baskonia, who, led by A.J. Lawson (9 points), tied the game (20-20 at the 9-minute mark). A two-plus-one from Matteo Spagnolo left the score at 20-23, which is how the first quarter ended.
As the minutes passed and thanks to suffocating defense that stifled Penya, Baskonia began to pull away. The absence of Ante Tomic was weighing heavily in the paint, and Paolo Galbiati's squad began to feel comfortable on the court. After a technical foul on Dani Miret for protesting, the Vitoria team went up by eight (23-31 at the 14-minute mark).
When things looked darkest for the green-and-black, Penya showed character. Despite a significant disparity in free throws (2 for Penya and 19 for Baskonia), Asisa Joventut, after a two-plus-one from Ricky Rubio, cut into Baskonia's lead. At halftime, 38-41 for Galbiati's squad. There was still much work to be done at the Olímpic.
After the break, Penya came out determined to turn the game around. Four consecutive points from Sulejmanovic and a three-pointer from Ellis (8 points) confirmed it (49-46 at the 23-minute mark). Baskonia had not entered the second half with the same intensity as the first.
The momentum of the game had completely shifted. Players who hadn't appeared until then began to emerge. A basket from Kraag gave Penya its largest lead (58-53 at the 28-minute mark). Paolo Galbiati called a timeout and brought his team back to order.
The reprimand had no effect. A three-pointer from Nico Laprovittola (19 points) practically at the buzzer made the Olímpic vibrate with a majority of Joventut supporters. Dani Miret's squad had put together an extraordinary third quarter, and the 30-16 run brought them closer to the final (68-57 at the 30-minute mark).
Baskonia gave everything at the start of the fourth quarter. A three-pointer from Kobi Simmons (17 points) brought his team closer (78-71 at the 35-minute mark), but it was a mirage. In the blink of an eye, with another three-pointer from an excellent Lapro (26 points), Penya left Baskonia mortally wounded (83-71 at the 36-minute mark).
However, Kosner Baskonia had not said its final word. With a 4-11 run, thanks to a three-pointer from Stewart (11 points), Paolo Galbiati's squad cut the deficit (87-82 at the 37-minute mark). But that's where Vitoria's resistance ended. Penya managed the final moments of the game and secured its place in the final with a 96-84 victory.
