LeBron James Signs with Philadelphia 76ers, Shakes Up NBA

LeBron James has a new destination. The small forward will sign a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers with a player option included, according to Shams Charania reporting from Klutch Sports and Rich Paul.

The move completely reshapes the NBA landscape. LeBron leaves his Los Angeles Lakers chapter behind and joins a heavyweight project in the East, where he will share the locker room with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown, acquired by the Sixers this summer.

The key is not the money. At 41 years old, LeBron accepts a contract well below what his athletic and media value could represent, making clear that the goal is to compete for another championship ring and not to maximize salary.

For Philadelphia, it's a brutal market move. The Sixers had already taken a huge step with the arrival of Jaylen Brown, and now they add one of the greatest players in history on a very favorable contract for the franchise.

LeBron will thus face his 24th season in the NBA with a new challenge: trying to bring the Sixers a title that the franchise hasn't won since 1983.

After weeks of rumors involving Miami, Cleveland, Golden State, and other destinations on the table, LeBron's final decision takes him to Philadelphia. And it automatically makes the 76ers one of the biggest storylines heading into next season.
