The last EuroLeague game Lorenzo Brown played was on January 22. Nearly eight months have passed and the point guard remains without a team, with the season about to start and an unresolved issue conditioning everything: his contract with Olimpia Milano remains in force and negotiations to terminate it have been stalled for months.
The knot is in Milan
According to reporting by Noa Poplinger in Sports5, both parties have been trying for some time to work out an exit that would allow Brown to become a free agent. One of the proposed formulas involves the player accepting a fifty percent salary reduction, but the conversations have not reached a successful conclusion.
Until that is resolved, any external interest remains just interest. A player with an active contract cannot sign with anyone, no matter how many teams want him.
The destination being discussed
From Israel, Hapoel Jerusalem is being mentioned, as they are looking to strengthen the point guard position following Jared Harper's injury and have Brown among the names they are considering. There is no official offer, it should be noted, but the fit would make sense: the point guard knows the Israeli league well after two seasons with Maccabi Tel Aviv between 2022 and 2024, probably the best period of his career in Europe.
If that avenue doesn't work out, he would be left waiting for the market to move once the season is underway, something that typically happens with the first injuries in October and November.
The 2025-26 numbers
And here lies the core problem. Brown played just twelve EuroLeague games with Olimpia Milano, averaging 5.8 points and 2.7 assists. Figures far removed from what he was at Maccabi, where he was a reference point in the competition.
Combined with his 36 years of age, that performance explains why the summer has passed without firm offers. The name still carries weight; recent numbers, not so much.
What's at stake for Spanish basketball
The matter has a domestic dimension. Brown, born in Rockford, holds a Spanish passport and has been an international player, playing a prominent role in Spain's gold medal at the 2022 EuroBasket. Having a national team player without a team in mid-September is not a minor detail heading into the upcoming FIBA windows, where availability and competitive rhythm weigh as heavily as talent.
