Cavaliers Exploring Trade of Dennis Schröder to Create Cap Space for Kuminga and Peyton Watson

The Cleveland Cavaliers are actively exploring the trade market for Dennis Schröder as part of a potential roster reconfiguration that would also provide salary cap flexibility.

According to Chris Fedor, the Cavs continue to analyze various trade packages involving the German point guard, trying to determine if there is a deal that would allow them to slightly modify their rotation while also improving their salary cap situation.

The move would also be related to Cleveland's interest in Jonathan Kuminga and Peyton Watson, two of the main names still available on the market. Kuminga is a free agent after Atlanta declined its team option, while Watson remains a restricted free agent and Denver retains the ability to match offers.

Schröder arrived in Cleveland during the previous season after starting the year in Sacramento. In 30 games with the Cavaliers, he averaged 8.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists, while for the entire 2025/26 season he posted 10.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 70 games.

The German has a salary of approximately $14.8 million for the 2026/27 season, a figure that makes his contract one of the avenues Cleveland can use to gain more maneuvering room.

For now, no deal is finalized, but Cleveland continues to study scenarios around Schröder while maintaining its focus on Kuminga and Peyton Watson.
