The Los Angeles Lakers are moving to strengthen their perimeter with the arrival of Ziaire Williams, but the big name driving their offseason remains Jonathan Kuminga. The Lakers have closed a deal with the former Brooklyn Nets wing for one season and $3 million, while continuing to work on making Kuminga a key piece of their new project.
According to Shams Charania, Williams has reached an agreement with the Lakers for the upcoming season. The wing comes off playing with the Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 10.2 points in 22.9 minutes per game, now entering his sixth NBA season.
His signing addresses a clear need: adding depth on the wings. The Lakers were looking for size, physicality, and perimeter rotation, and Williams arrives as a low-cost bet to fill minutes and contribute in a secondary role.
But the move doesn't change the main objective. The franchise remains very focused on Jonathan Kuminga, whom they see as a potential starting-caliber wing. His arrival would represent a real step up for a team looking to better surround Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves.
Williams adds depth to the roster. Kuminga, meanwhile, would be the marquee move. And the Lakers continue working in that direction.
