ago 01 2026Maccabi Tel Aviv is making decisive moves in the transfer market. The Israeli club has the arrival of Daniel Theis on track and is also working on Armoni Brooks, one of the players who could leave ASVEL due to the French club's financial restructuring.
The Brooks case is especially interesting. The American shooting guard signed with ASVEL this summer following a strong season at Olimpia Milano, but Villeurbanne's project has suddenly changed. The budget reduction has put several important operations in doubt for the club, including those of Sylvain Francisco, Daniel Theis, Nick Weiler-Babb, and Brooks himself.
Maccabi sees him as an ideal option to cover a possible departure of Lonnie Walker, who despite having a valid contract could leave the club in the coming days. Brooks fits the profile: a scoring wing with excellent shooting and recent EuroLeague experience.
Last season, with Olimpia Milano, he averaged 13.1 points and shot 41.6% from three-point range in EuroLeague. Additionally, he was named MVP of the Italian league, a detail that explains why ASVEL had brought him in as one of the key pieces of their new project.
The operation, however, is not yet done. According to reports from Israel, Brooks would not be entirely convinced about playing in Tel Aviv due to the well-known security concerns surrounding the country. At Maccabi, however, they remain optimistic and believe they can make it happen.
The Israeli club has already taken advantage of ASVEL's situation with Theis and is now trying to repeat the move with Brooks. If they succeed, they would turn someone else's problem into their own opportunity: losing Walker, yes, but replacing him with one of the best shooters available on the European market.
