FIATC Girona claimed their third victory of the season in a Catalan derby that started poorly but ended with commanding control. Asisa Joventut, riding high after thrashing Barcelona and defeating Telekom Baskets Bonn in the Basketball Champions League, dominated the first quarter, but Moncho Fernández's squad turned the game around before halftime and never relinquished control at Fontajau.
Joventut Strikes First
Dani Miret's side came out with the intensity of recent weeks and closed the first quarter with a ten-point lead (17-27). The Penya punished Girona in the paint and at the free-throw line, forcing them to chase the scoreboard in the opening minutes.
A Second Quarter That Changed the Game
The home response came from beyond the arc. Girona posted a 28-14 run in the second quarter and headed to halftime ahead (45-41). From that point on, the game became theirs: the Gerundense side led for more than 28 minutes and built a lead as large as 17 points.

McClung and Pluta, the Shooting Touch That Made the Difference
Mark McClung led Girona with 23 points in less than 24 minutes, including five three-pointers, and Pluta added 18, also with five three-point makes, to post the game's best rating. Jassel Pérez, coming off a 40-point performance against Leyma Coruña, contributed 14 points, and Geben added 12 points and 6 rebounds from the paint. Three-point shooting was the decisive factor: Girona made twice as many three-pointers as their opponent.
Reyes and Rubio Not Enough
For Joventut, Reyes led the way with 21 points, and Laprovittola added 15. Ricky Rubio posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists, shooting a perfect night from the free-throw line. The black-and-greens won the rebounding battle, but their 8-of-33 three-point shooting kept them from closing the gap in the second half. With this loss, Penya falls to 2-3, while Girona improves to 3-2.
